After coming off a tough Tour De France, pro Tinkoff Saxobank team rider Nicolas Roche had to contend with his toughest challenge yet……two very energetic kids with a love for cycling! We met up in Dublin’s city centre to photograph the launch of the Nicolas Roche Classic, an annual sportif offering a route for cyclists of all abilities, starting at Fairyhouse Racecourse on Saturday 4 October 2014 in aid of children’s charity, Barnardos, and sponsored by Standard Life. With a passion for cycling myself, I had the added bonus of checking out Specialized’s new Tarmac S-Works McLaren in the flesh, and imagining what it would be like to have the approx €18,000 bike in my own shed. In person, Nicolas is very humble, soft-spoken and a pleasure to work with. He had fun with the children, pretending to have races with them, before ‘letting them win’, which not only delighted them, but made for great images. Admittedly, this outing was a lot less stressful for him compared to his previous en-devour – racing a horse at Fairyhouse Race course. Below are some of the images from the shoot.
